VBS Set Up Night
Come to the church on Thursday night at 6:30 pm, July 3 for an important meeting and to help set up the building with some amazing props for VBS week! We could use lots of hands.
Remember to bring in the items you have offered for VBS between 9- noon Monday – Friday (June 30 – July 4).
We would love for you to join us in preparing for VBS this Thursday morning as we make decorations from 9:30 – 11:30 am in the church basement. No great crafting skills required! If you can cut with a scissors and glue, you are welcome!
Children’s Church
There will be a sign up sheet in the foyer for those are willing to volunteer for Children’s Church and who have an up to date criminal record check with CHBC.
Prayers for family & missionaries
Jeff & Sonya Kilmartin, Cameroon: Sonya is in Nigeria right now, working hard in the school, and says she is enjoying it very much. She is working with one of their younger teachers, and feels like she is making progress there.
One of the ongoing issues that the community is dealing with is water breaks – vandals continually breaking the pipes. They have lost count of the number of times this has happened and have been without running water for several weeks. The pipes are about 7 km long, with several lines, so they are difficult to protect. Meanwhile, the people are pumping water from a borehole, or fetching water from the stream.
Jeff just came back from Nigeria after spending a week there with their KEY leaders. He did a little bit of teaching, but was mostly privileged just to listen and learn about following Christ in their own context. Their earliest exposure to the gospel did not come through white missionaries but through Africans. It was fascinating to learn about what they were taught and to see how they have faithfully followed Jesus Christ in their culture. He hopes to learn more in the coming months.
The power situation has improved a bit, as they have a new line coming from the hospital. This means that while some of the heavier electric loads will not run (e.g., fridge, sewing machine), the lights will at least go on, and that is a blessing.
Thank you for praying for Jeff and Sonya.
