CHBC Summer Worship

This year we will continue to have 2 worship services throughout the summer – one at 9 am and 10:45 am. Children’s Church will be offered in the 10:45 service, but the 9 am Sunday School will not be resuming until the fall. The final Sunday School will be on June 17th.

CHBC Sunday Evening Service

After prayerful discussion, our elders have decided to move ahead with plans for a Sunday evening service, with a target launch date of Sunday, September 13, 2026.

Over the summer, our staff, elders, and Worship Committee will continue working through the details, including service structure, volunteer needs, music, hospitality, and other practical matters. A group of interested participants and potential launch team members will also be meeting later this summer to pray, connect, and prepare together.

At this stage, this is simply an FYI for the whole congregation. More information will be shared as plans develop. In the meantime, please join us in thanking God for his guidance so far, and in praying for wisdom, unity, and clarity as we prepare for the fall. Our hope is that this evening service would create more space for people to encounter Christ, grow in meaningful relationships, and experience the warmth and hospitality of our church family.

White Cross: While summer is typically a slower period, we successfully gathered items to send to Edmonton ahead of the August 4th deadline. We delivered 10 boxes, which included 38 layettes in drawstring bags for new mothers. Additionally, White Cross was blessed with the opportunity to donate toward purchasing four IV pumps for Cameroon, addressing a critical, life-saving need. We look forward to resuming our full activities in September 2026. Watch for event dates in upcoming emails!

Christiane & Tyler Horton, SIM, England: Christiane & Tyler had the opportunity to go to East Africa. Please pray that they would be an encouragement to teammates, friends, the Gasmalla community (the village where Christiane used to live), the pastors that they meet with, and anyone else with whom the Lord brings across their path. Their recent update on their trip is attached. They have set up a WhatsApp Group where they will post regular travel updates, prayer points, photos, stories, etc. You can join it through the QR code in the attached newsletter. This is a secure group and is set up so that only the Hortons can post.

Dominic Villeneuve, MAF:  An update from Dominic received August 1: As you know, the Ebola outbreak in DRC is still ongoing. The last report was over 1400 confirmed deaths, and over 3200 confirmed cases. Of course, the actual numbers are much higher. The response to the outbreak has been plagued by difficulties due to ongoing conflict, public distrust, and even denial of the disease itself. Workers are being attacked, treatment centres damaged and destroyed, and doctors are putting their lives on the line. In light of the devolving situation, it was decided that the risks associated with remaining in Bunia were too great, and MAF would temporarily relocate to Uganda and serve our partners from there. The past several weeks have been fraught with logistical challenges as we move our aircraft, equipment, and families to this new place. Of course, the emotional toll has been extremely high as well. We are now all in Uganda and settling into this new life and routine as best we can. Please pray for:

· our team during this time. For the children as they make new friends and miss old ones, for the pilots as we navigate the technical challenges this new context throws at us, and for the wives who have to balance all of this while managing a household.

· the doctors, nurses, and front-line workers in DRC who are facing incredible challenges with pitifully few resources to meet them

· the sick, that the Lord's hand of healing would be upon them

· those who have lost friends and family members, that they would know God's comfort

· those who live in the midst of all this chaos, that they would be protected from harm.
