Equip Weekend

This year, as we continue on our journey together reading through the Word, the elders at CHBC invite you to join us for a weekend of learning to live by that very Word. Over Friday evening and Saturday morning, we'll talk about the following topics.

  • Where the Bible Comes From and How We Can Trust It (Micah Brookhart)
  • The Practice of Observation and Ten Strategies for First-Rate Reading (Chris Bowler)
  • Six Things to Look For in the Word (Steve Mueller)
  • Keys to Interpreting the Word (Bob Reid & Al Bromley)
  • Applying the Word (Pastor Curtis & Pastor Todd)

The teaching is largely based on the work of Howard G. Hendricks in his book Living by the Book. We'd love for you to join us — click here to reserve your spot.

What's Included

  • Schedule: We'll have two sessions on Friday evening from 7-9 pm, breakfast on Saturday morning (November 15 & 16), then three sessions on Saturday from 8:30 – noon to finish things off.
  • Cost: It will be $15 per person to cover the cost of the catered breakfast.
  • Whose Involved? Both the elders of CHBC, as well as Pastor Micah from Garden City will lead the teaching.
  • Childcare: is provided!

LIVE NATIVITY

We are excited to once again be putting on our Live Nativity Production. The Dates for this year are as follows:

Friday December 20th and Saturday December 21st with productions at 6:30, 7, and 7:30 pm.

This is a production anyone can be involved with in some way. We have in the past had toddlers in animal suits and seniors in the choir or hosting inside! Areas to be involved in are as follows:

Acting (pantomime no talking)directed by Janet Hillgartner: Angels, Shepherds, Wise Men, and small animals for in the stable with Mary and Joseph.

Choir - Directed by Magdalena: Anyone who loves to sing. And who can make it to the choir rehearsals

Technical - AJ McBlain: someone to help with lights and sound

Crew: set-up and take down of the sets, hay bale seating etc.

Hospitality: Serving cookies and hot drinks inside to guests following each performance. (shorter time slot commitment)

Hospitality Coordinator(s): make sure we have everything to be able to serve our guests. And help organize kitchen and inside areas.

Live Animals: Donkeys, Sheep, Goats, Llamas, or Ponies. Live farm animals really enrich the experience. If you have some that you may be willing to bring please talk to Janet Hillgartner @ 250-640-3353

Parking Lot Attendants and traffic control: we need approximately 4 -6 people willing to manage traffic in and out of our parking lot. We average 600 people per night over 3 showings. So there are a lot of people coming and going!

Bakers: People willing to donate a couple dozen cookies or bars for our cookie trays. Can be dropped off at the church anytime the week prior to our showings

Any questions? Please contact AJ McBlain @ CHBC or Janet Hillgartner @ 250-640-3353 or js4590@telus.net

In case of extreme weather we will move the production inside. (Yes even the hay and animals)

GAIN Church Planting Project – West Africa: We are now 1 month into our Going for Gold project to support a Church Planting Team for one year! The goal is to equip the church leaders in evangelism and follow-up, as well as providing them with food, transportation and resources like mp3 players loaded with commentaries in local languages. These gifts will also go to plant churches and even build 3-4 physical churches. Please mark your donation “GAIN Church Plant Fundraiser.” If you have any questions, please speak with one of the Missions Committee members. As well, you may email missions@mychbc.ca to request a phone call or receive a copy of the GAIN Church Planting Proposal. Thanks for your giving so far! We have now received $3630 in funds for this project!

Dominic Villenueve with MAF:  Why not care for the whole health of people, including both spiritual and physical needs? This is the premise behind the organization Dominic has been blessed to serve in the DRC (Democratic Republic of the Congo). In a country where there were less than 2 doctors per 10,000 people as of 2022, they are looking to use medical help as a way to also meet spiritual needs among many people groups, especially the least reached ones. Dominic writes, “It is also one of my greatest privileges to have you partnering with the work I am doing!” To find out more, visit his page at Dominic Villeneuve | MAF. If you would like to be part of supporting the work he is doing, MAF has a matching donations campaign until Dec. 31st. Go to maf.ca/2024christmascampaign and be sure to add Dominic Villeneuve in the comments section!
